In-Person Lessons

Let’s Make Your Next Move, Together!
Fun, focused, in-person chess lessons designed to challenge, inspire, and level up your game.
In-person lessons with Coach Phil offer a fun, engaging way to improve your chess game through personalized, hands-on instruction. Whether you’re just starting out or training for your next tournament, each session is tailored to your goals and skill level. Lessons are available for both kids and adults, and focus on building confidence, strategy, and a deeper understanding of the game. Each session is structured to balance instruction, hands-on play, and review. Lessons typically begin with a warm-up puzzle or strategy discussion, followed by guided practice or gameplay with live feedback. The session ends with a quick recap and optional homework to reinforce concepts between lessons. In-person lessons are ideal for students who thrive with hands-on guidance and face-to-face interaction. Whether you’re a beginner looking to build a strong foundation or an advanced player preparing for tournaments, personalized instruction can make all the difference.

Prepare For Your First Lesson
To get the most out of your coaching, we recommend the following:
-
Take a Chess Assessment First
For just $25, this optional one-on-one evaluation helps determine your current skill level and goals. Coach Phil will use the results to create a customized lesson plan just for you.
-
Set a Goal
Whether you’re aiming to win your first tournament, master an opening, or improve your endgame, having a clear goal helps Coach Phil tailor your training.
-
Review Recent Games
If possible, bring notation or screenshots of any games you’ve played recently (especially losses!). These can provide valuable insight during the session.
-
Limit Distractions
Choose a quiet, comfortable space for your lesson, especially if it’s being held at your home.
