Whether you’re a beginner learning the basics or a seasoned player preparing for tournaments, each online session is tailored to your individual goals and playing style. Lessons are available for both kids and adults, and focus on building strategy, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the game. Each session is conducted through Chess.com using its interactive tools and live video call features. Sessions typically begin with a warm-up tactic or strategy discussion, followed by guided gameplay, puzzle review, or analysis of your past games. Real-time feedback, custom training plans, and post-lesson homework are included to help you grow between sessions. Prepare For Your First Lesson

To get the most out of your coaching, we recommend the following:

  1. Take a Chess Assessment First

For just $25, this optional one-on-one evaluation helps determine your current skill level and goals. Coach Phil will use the results to create a customized lesson plan tailored just for you.

  2. Set a Goal

Whether you’re aiming to increase your rating, prepare for a tournament, or improve specific skills, a clear goal helps guide each session.

  3. Review Recent Games

Have 1–2 recent games (with notation or screenshots) ready to review—especially ones you found challenging or confusing.

  4. Test Your Tech

Make sure your internet connection, webcam, and microphone are working before your first lesson for a smooth start.
